I am continuing to work on this Angela portrait. There is very interesting lighting in the picture I am taking this from. I hope I can capture it.
I mentioned in my last blog about Ms. Bassett being nominated for an academy award. So there is one other thing I want to say about the Oscars this year. While I am very glad Ms. Bassett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, I am appalled that Viola Davis was not nominated for best actress. I walked out of the theatre after seeing The Woman King and I thought, "there is the academy award!" But not only for Ms. Davis, but the movie itself was brilliant as were all the actors, especially Thuso Mbedu and Lashana Lynch. I couldn't imagine it wouldn't be nominated as best picture and the director Gina Prince-Bythewood wouldn't be nominated as best director. But it is clear as Ms. Prince-Bythewood states, it is "a reflection of where the Academy stands and the consistent chasm between Black excellence and recognition." I would add especially for Black women.
